About this program

Smashball is a fun and easy way for beginners to learn volleyball. The program helps boys and girls in 1st-5th grade develop skills in a new, active format led by A4 staff.

Smashball keeps core volleyball elements such as passing, setting, and hitting, but adjusts the format so players get more touches and more involvement on every play. Teams of two or three start with a serve and allow one bounce on the receiving side before the rally continues.

Curriculum

Three tiers of progression.

  1. Smashball Level 1

Players catch the ball and self toss to the net to smash it. Players serve to initiate and may let the ball bounce once on their side.

  2. Smashball Level 2

A serve initiates play and teams use up to three contacts: catch, toss from the net, and smash. Teams rotate through catching, tossing, and smashing.

  3. Smashball Level 3

Players graduate to hitting off a live set. Play starts with a serve, allows one bounce, and includes catch, set, and smash actions.
